4. Check-in staff really don't care, and there was no manager on duty when we checked in just before 6 p.m. The lobby and grounds are pretty attractive, but when your king bed has only one tiny nightstand and the kitchenette features a dirty old toaster and a few mismatched dishes, you know you've been had.

9. What makes the fee worse is how pathetic the reason for the fee is: to pay for free newspapers and coffee in the lobby and two bottles of water a day.

10. Well, 'free newspapers' means one copy each of three newspapers in the lobby, mounted on wooden poles like they use in libraries, so you can forget about taking a copy to your room, and you may well have to wait your turn to read it.
