1. And the free wireless isn't the fastest in the world (I wouldn't try to watch movies with it), but it's always worked without problems (and props to the Hotel Derek for not charging the ridiculous internet fees so many hotels do!)There is just one restaurant in the hotel, Valentino's, which appears to be a very popular and hip cocktails-and-dinner nightspot, but during the day, it's fairly basic.

3. Also, the entire hotel is non-smoking and their website says they will charge you a $250 cleaning fee if you smoke in your room.

5. As I drove up I was quickly impressed as two security guards stopped rush hour traffic so I could turn into the hotel entrance but, my smile quickly turned upside down as I was greeted by a sign that read 'Valet Parking' for a fee of $19.

7. Cons:Parking isn't free, there is a charge of $19Pet Friendly, requires $50 non-refundable fee, limits on what rooms you can stay in and they don't have a city view.

9. Hotels close to the Galleria charge high valet or self parking fees it's just the way it is so The Derek is not unresonable to charge $19.00 for valet.
