We go to SF six times a year and have stayed at over six older hotels in that area and like the Whitcomb the best for the following reasons:- it's in better shape than most- it has room heat/ac, not all do- the BART and light rail entrance is right out front, as is the trolley line stop- prices are good (frequently $75-100, but you have to search the Internet)- it has Internet service in the room- it has a nice bar and restaurant on the first floor, and a StarbucksFrom the Whitcomb, you can: walk to the Castro in 40 min (or take the J line in 10 min); walk to the Mosconi center in 10 min; walk to the Ferry Building in 30 min (or take the trolley in 20 min - yes it's slow); and take the trolley to Fisherman's wharf in 45 min.
