1. There are several delicious bakeries within a couple of blocks, including my favorite: Bread and Cocoa on Sutter (you'll walk past on the way towards Market Street and the BART)--be sure and order the $5 namesake, which gives you a generous mug of ultra rich cocoa and a quarter baguette toasted with Nutella, peanut butter, and bananas.

Services were basic - no breakfast, $10 daily for internet, minimal TV stations, no fridge and 'room service' is really a call for take-out delivery - but given cleanliness, price and location at epicenter of downtown (above plus pleasant walk through Chinatown to North Beach or to the Embarcadero) this hotel simply cannot be topped.

4. With affordable City Passes, we took advantage of bus, streetcar, cable car and lightrail stops all within walking distance of the Baldwin.

5. It was also very easy to come back to the hotel in between excursions to change, rest, etc. Good places to eat within a very short distance, Chinatown a brief walk away - it was really a terrific stay in San Francisco and we were so pleased with our choice of the Baldwin Hotel.
