4. The 'Reading Room' provided a quiet oasis from the hustle below on the street (although through the beautiful windows you could still enjoy seeing the activity); tasteful Christmas music played while you enjoyed your breakfast or wine and hors d'oeurves at the end of the day.

5. Each night we were there, after our exhausting excursions of seeing New York in it Christmas finest, we returned to our room and watched one of the American Film Institutes Top 100 movies; in our case it was 'It's A Wonderful Life' and 'Miracle on 34th Street.

6. We loved the unique quality of each room; ours had a bay window with views up and down Madison Avenue and over 41st Street to the New York Public Library.
