From the moment we crossed the threshold, we felt genuinely welcomed and planned for--a surprise bottle of Prosecco in our room with a thoughtful anniversary note; complimentary slippers and a soft robe for relaxing; no-additional-charge wine, cheese, crackers, and fruit in the lounge overlooking Madison Avenue before dinner; heavenly scented toiletries tubside; fresh eggs, bagels, and to-order, self-service espresso in the morning--again, all included in the room price.

One side of the mirrored niche was a wardrobe; the other side had the mini-bar (one of those automatic charge ones, so make sure you check the bill before paying it: I had been charged for half-a-dozen items I had not used, but they were quickly removed when I questioned the discrepancy between what I was expecting and what the bill actually was), a TV and an in-room safe (a small one - not big enough for my 13inch laptop).

10. Trip slightly marred by the hotel trying to charge $150 for a 3 hour extension on the checkout after we had stayed for 7 nights but we rejected that and they kept our bags for us anyway.
