2. There was aircon, it was a bit noisy coming on and off at night but it's not something that bothered me a great deal - the room was a decent temperature actually (despite it being incredibly hot outside on some days).

3. This is New York, where space is at a premium; if the tradeoff is an intimate hotel with a variety of small, library-related public spaces and an unusual range of free amentities (including excellent wi-fi), that seems a decent deal.
