1. We used the Speedy Shuttle from/to the airport (cheaper than a taxi) and found we really didn't miss not having a car for our short stay -- any longer and we probably would have wanted a rental.

7. The food is best ignored, your best bet on site was to go next door to their sister Hotel Mauna Kea for sunday brunch (there is a free shuttle that leaves from the front every 30minutes), it's like 40dollars a person, if that's pricey for you then i would skip everything.
