2. The location was perfect--right at the edge of downtown, convenient to the streetcar and light rail, the freeway, and the top in town local sights including downtown and Portland's wonderful food carts for lunch, Chinatown, the Pearl District, Powell's bookstore, a Whole Foods around the corner, Kenny and Zuke's deli across the street, and the absolutely marvelous Jakes Seafood a block away for a not to be forgotten dinner.

3. I think it can be easy for a midrange hotel to let things slip - service, cleanliness, food etc -, and your experience quickly becomes a very average one that the cheaper price no longer makes up for, however I have to say that Mark Spencer hotel does not have this problem and indeed has got it SPOT ON in every regard here.
