2. With an efficient and pleasant staff and clean quiet accomodations under its roof and all of Portland at its doorstep, I'd recommend the Mark Spencer hotel without hesitation.

But we'd stay anyway - rates are very competitive, beds comfortable, rooms quiet, and amenities can't be beat: a complimentary wine reception every evening with cookies and pizza, a more than ample continental breakfast, extra service, great location, etc., etc. Can't recommend it highly enough.
