It's probably worth mentioning that we're seasoned, relaxed and aware travellers who aren't particularly demanding or difficult - but when you're staying in a hotel of this international reputation, on a work trip in a place you've never been before, you do hope for a certain level of delight beyond just having your basic needs met, to be pleasantly surprised by what you encounter, to feel like you didn't just get 'mediocre accommodation in a mass-marketed chain hotel' but rather an 'experience'.
