I chose the hotel as an alternative to the selection of hotels that the conference was offering and in particular for the pool, which ended up being a huge mistake as the hotel was under major renovations which made the pool not available to guests - I thought it was unacceptable that nowhere on their own website or other booking websites was it mentioned that the pool was under renovation (they did offer the Marriot pool across the street as an alternative).
