Union Sq is busy, noisy and a little bit dodgy- lots of homeless people and just a few blocks in the worng direction from the hotel you end up in the Tenderloin which is SF's worst area for crime- I ended up having to visit the police station there after being pickpocketed on my way from the airport to the hotel.
