1. You shouldn't be afraid of very weird people - but the whole area is full of them, so even the most expensive Hotel wouldn't help you with that.

3. ? The location is great (right near the Powell St BART), and prices even better (I did a shared-bath room for 9 days; no problems -- if you think it's weird to share a bathroom/shower with the rest of your floor, it's really no different, as they keep everything very clean).

5. tiny rooms, shared bathroom - 2 per floor i believe (which was weird at first but VERY clean and good amenities) in the heart of downtown san fran.
