1. Carpet was slightly shabby (I think we were in the older part of the hotel, the regular rooms rather than the suite) but everything was very clean.

5. Even as that grand hotel was closing (and was quite shabby itself in its last days) and the staff was aware of their imminent unemployment, they remained professional, courteous and very friendly.
