It's a great city and it would be

to spend too much of it in (what I found out to be) the kitsch, overly touristy part of town.

It's a
shame
that the cable cars are a pricey 5 bucks to downtown -- it would be a great way to get downtown (it still is, if you come off season and don't mind overpaying a bit extra for 'the experience').

Our room looked out onto a pretty kinda courtyard area, we did feel a bit overlooked, so kept the blinds closed which was a
shame
.
