1. After a great lunch at near by burger joint Violettas (get the Oregonzola fries, so delicious!), We took a short walking tour of downtown Portland, and visited the new farmers market that has been set up one block from the Heathman.

2. The restaurant in the hotel serves a wonderful Northwest menu-the Chef is a Regional James Beard award winner, the food is terrific-had a crab mango salad for lunch that is best I have EVER had, breakfasts were great, and the service is friendly, attentive and very knowledgable.

3. There was always a staff person at the desk to answer questions, and they were most helpful with food and shopping recommendations - when we asked to have a reservation made for lunch at a nearby restaurant, the front desk sent over an an appetizer for our party.

6. The hotel is well-located to the culture district, the university, shopping (Nordstrom's 2 blocks away,) etc. A few walking tours also begin at the Heathman, which adds to the enjoyment of Portland (my sister stayed with me on this trip and went on the food tour of the Pearl District -- a very good choice!)If you want to venture out for dining, I strongly recommend the Flying Elephant nearby for breakfast bakery and hot items, coffee/tea, lunch items.
