1. Also make sure you visit Johnny Foley's bar a couple of blocks away for a couple of jars and a great feed (especially if your homesick for meals familiar to Brits and Aussies).

7. we had a large double queen room overlooking Powell st which was very noisy with Tram noise but when the bars empty a lot of drunken shouting in the early hours that was very disturbing, so book this hotel but a room at the back.

8. There are two clubs that play live jazz nightly on the street behind the building, along with another dive bar that plays all sorts of other music nightly as well.

9. Also at about 4am every morning the recycling truck comes along and starts tossing empty bottles from the bar across the street in the back of the truck.
