4. We went to a great breakfast place (Dottie's) just off market street, but rather than take a direct walk 3 blocks we were advised to go back to Union square and circle around 9 blocks just to take a safer route - on a Monday morning - very disconcerting.

6. They gave us a complimentary upgrade; we parked overnight with the valet service, enjoyed cocktails in the Redwood Room and a very nice breakfast buffet the following day.

7. The hotel's saving grace is the excellent location close to Union Square and a couple of great breakfast places (Taylor Street Coffee Shop, Dottie's), plus the concierge and front office staff is excellent.

8. With limited room availability in SF when we arrived, we ended up picking the Clift and a 'studio suite' for about $345++ (=$400 nett not including breakfast) which was described on their site as a larger, more luxurious room.
