This is a classic old San Francisco landmark (oldest hotel on Union Square) with many of the attributes of a fine hotel including a Michael Mina steakhouse, very courteous and efficient door and bellmen, and, for the most part, knowledgable and helpful front desk personnel (I bought stamps from one who did not know the postage for a postcard.
