1. Turning either way brings to 42nd Street, and that means you have access to many theatres, good restaurants, shops and the New York City Tourist Office.

4. It's conveniently located two blocks from the subway and is right down the street from a great grocery store, fantastic restaurants, a bakery, etc. Also, Central Park is only a five minute walk from the hotel.

6. We're academics on a budget, and staying at the Carter for 5 nights freed up more than half a grand for theater tickets and nice restaurants, compared to what even a chain 'budget' hotel goes for in Times Square.

7. the hotel is surrounded by great restaurants (I ate at Copolla's one night), and the subway station a couple blocks away was perfect (the express is a one stop to time square) for my business appointments.

8. All told, this is a good place for those who want to enjoy the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- Central and Riverside Parks, Lincoln Center, The Museum of Natural History, the Columbia University Campus, an array of great restaurants -- or venture across or downtown.
