Also took advantage of Duke's restaurant/
bar
in the resort next door - very convenient when we didn't feel like getting in the car.

We stayed at the Mahana for 2 weeks in Jan 2012 and here are highlights of what we liked:-clean rooms (and a nice room with full kitchen)-beautiful groomed shrubs, flowers, lawn etc.-helpful staff-amazing views from each unit-saw lots of whales breaching from our balcony-fun 'land' curling on ocean front-tennis courts in good shape and rackets/balls/court time are provided for free-situated on nicest beach in Maui and close to all great snorkelling beaches in Kaanapali -beach sand out front is the softest you could imagine-each unit had a DVD player (in Sony playstation)-free movies with a huge selection including new DVDs-expedia tour expert on site-poolside snack
bar
with reasonable prices-beach towels provided-free event tickets for the Kapalua PGA given to us at check inHere is what I did not like:-charges $0.75 per phone call from the land line-beach immediately out front had lots of coral and were not great snorkel/swim beaches (don't go out without rash gaurd and aqua socks/booties).

The only downside at all was that there was no restaurant on-site and, therefore, no room service, although there was a nice little snack
bar
down by the pool for breakfast sandwiches and light lunches.

There is a coffee/snack/shave ice
bar
on site, too, that's quite good.

The food was great, and so were our seats (we just paid for a standard ticket) and the open

was always enjoyable.

However, if you like the convenience of restaurants,
bar
s/pool
bar
s, and nightlife where you are staying, than stay at the Hyatt, Sheraton, or other.

We

-b-qued on the beautiful grills, used the in-room washer/dryer, bought food from Costco, Safeway and Star market and made our own drinks in the blender.

The Gemini 'champagne' sail offered an open
bar
and plentiful appetizers for a lot less than a full dinner sail.
