1. There was also a ton of large chips in the floor, vanity, and sink, and the paint over the tiles in the shower was peeling and flaked off every time we took a shower.

I gave Hotel Wailea 4 stars instead of 5 because there are some areas that I thought could use improvement -- (1) There is a small kitchen, but it is not very functional (adding a small microwave and some basic cooking utensils/pots and pans would help); and (2) some areas clearly have not been updated and could use attention (stained carpet in closet, parquet floors in bathroom, peeling shower paint).

10. The bathtub drain would never stay open, the cooktop was decrepit, the shower was chipped, the kitchen utensils were from WWII, etc. The rooms (we moved once) simply did not match the rest of the hotel.
