The hotel is actually a landmark building, that was renovated a few years ago, and has the most fabulous marriage of old-wold beauty (check out the stained glass rotunda in the courtyard) and modern updates (swoon over the green onyx check-in desk, and the eye-candy glass sculptures on the wall behind it.

5. Pros: Fabulous concierge service, super location on Nob Hill at the intersection of the cable car lines (though one line is currently down for renovation), beautiful lobby/lounge area with crisp and comfortable decor, excellent wait staff in the restaurant.
