1. ) Following my own discovery I requested a room exchange and was told that there were no rooms of similar or better quality to my current room at a further distance from the construction noise.

3. Just a side note, it doesn't matter what floor you are on, you will hear street noise.

5. There were large gaps around the doorways, so you could also hear noise in the hallway outside the room.
