1. It did feel a bit uncomfortable walking back to the hotel in the evenings as there are a few homeless people who ask for money just down from the hotel.

3. The neighborhood also has more than its share of street people but gentrification has proceeded apace since I was last there and you would have to make much more of an effort to get into places that felt seriously uncomfortable after dark.

6. We never felt uncomfortable (we`re from Seattle, and there`s a noticeable homeless presence there too), but really--if you`re staying in the city`s most popular tourist destination, you should expect that panhandlers will naturally congregate in that area as well.
