1. Location is great, just 2 blocks from Union Square and right beside the cable car route - a great way to avoid walking up the steep hills and for getting to the Wharf (a multi-day pass is best value).

4. While the Cable Cars were pretty crowded in the evenings, we figured out ways to avoid the crowds and usually got on without a problem.
"Great little hotel - fantastic location - accomodating staff - loved it! " Read full review on TripAdvisor   6/24/2010 Vote
5. avoid: the alcoholics beggars & the Mexican bar round the corner as the food sucks and the Margharitas are too sour.

6. But some of the above negatives are avoidable, such as the room type etc and overall, the experience was positive.

7. 'not the hotel's problem') - surely it's the hotel manager's job to resolve this, not the customers job to spend 30 minutes in a call centre queue reporting the problem?-Water takes a long time to warm up in the mornings and shower is quite weak (floor 7)-Noise from next room *if you have adjoining doors*, avoid those rooms, as otherwise the noise suppression is pretty good.

8. Asked for and received a high floor room facing the rear to avoid street noise, however, no view to speak of except a roof and another hotel.

10. My advice is to avoid the large queues at the terminus at powell/market and wait at the first or second stop futher on, indicated by brown signs.
"Great stay at the Orchard " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/6/2006 Vote
