1. Even if you are just travelling from LA or SF, keep an eye out for a good rate and book a night, you'll have a great weekend.

Neither of us had been to Santa Barbara before, but a search on the net (on sites including this one!) led us to Canary Hotel - it seemed to be the perfect mix of good location, great rooms/decor etc. that we were looking for, plus the rates were reasonable given we were only booking a week or so in advance.

6. I would skip the restaurant - had breakfast there both mornings and cannot recommend it unless you order granola like I did the second morning - that was good -The gentlemen at the door when you arrive are first rate.
