The W's staff however were fantastic: from Mark, the bellman, who greeted us warmly when we arrived and advised us on the best place for gumbo when we said we were hungry, to Ashley at reception and Stacey, the manager, who were extremely professional and personable and helped us in more ways than I can recount to ensure that we had a great weekend.

7. Late in the day when I called back the EXCELLENT front desk manager said he understood and had secured us a suite at the other W on Poydras Street.

8. My take on it is that the hotel is a few years past its need for some renovation and the staff needs a housekeeping manager with a new pair of eyeglasses.

9. Emailed ahead for an upgrade and James (manager) and Shahidah happily upgraded us to a suite.

10. Without assurances from the manager that some of these areas will be rectified I may have to change my current reservations for the upcoming jazzfest (our group is currently reserving 4 rooms in May).
