1. We pulled up to the hotel and were approached by a valet; we like to access our car frequently and do not like to use valet services (not due to the cost but rather the fact that we like to park our own car) so we declined.

2. But the self-park garages do not have a direct entrance to the hotel so it can be difficult if you have a lot of luggage to park yourself and then walk to the hotel.

From the street entrance at which you leave your car ($20 to park it yourself next door--which is reached by going around the block because they don't tell you until you arrive 10 feet past the parking lot/or $22 to have them park it for you) to the elevators and lobby, the building smells of something unpleasant--perhaps garbage plus cleaning materials.
