1. My advice is to book as early as you can for a good rate, even that it is a tad expensive.

Stayed here at the end of jan for 4nights in a junior suite I have stayed in this hotel for 4 times in a period over 10 years This hotel has good rooms ( may be time to update ) apart from that the room was cleaned and turndown everyday nice touch the water All the staff I met were very polite and efficient wish i wish could say the same about the door staff never open door got you taxi if they were not talking to each other, and one was stood talking to someone else on nearby hotel frontHad breakfast in my rate was very good and nice place to start your day in NYC Also had room service which the food was very good value brought to you by polite staffHave stayed at many 5 star hotels in New York but I still keep coming back to this hotel why good location value for money and good staff who go that extra mile ( not front door)I live in the uk if you want a hotel in the big apple choose this one you won't be dissatisfied.

We've stayed at other places, including the Casablanca, which is currently tops on the Tripadvisor list, but I don't think that we've liked any hotel in the city more than the Sofitel for its convenient location, expansive, modern rooms, relatively reasonable rates, and its courteous service staff.
