1. I was not upset, as I know as a frequent traveller and Hotwire junkie, when you get a great deal via these sites, the hotel is giving you the bottom of the barrel room, which is understandable.

3. Though I'd been to Southern California numerous times, I had never really had a desire to stay in Venice as it's not really my style, but I booked via Hotwire in the Santa Monica area and got a good deal at the Erwin, about $125/night.

Upon check in I asked what the deal was on that, and the gentleman who helped me was unsure, and there was no record of this on our reservation, but after asking his colleague they came to the conclusion that we would eat there, and then the $50 would be taken off of our bill at check in, and there was no reason to let the restaurant know.
