1. All the staff from the Bell/valet who great you in true Aloha spirit to the front desk who begin your journey with cool towels and refreshing juices are (in my husbands words, 'totally awesome').

Other genius ideas from the accounting department include $15-a-day self parking at a satellite lot (valet is even higher) & obscene daily Wi Fi charges - when you are paying a top rate of $500 to $775 a day it's not really about the money, it's about feeling like you are being played - for a place that relies on repeat business with long term stays, these are not good ways to maintain good will.

4. There is a $15 self-park charge, $20 for valet, but that's how it is on Hawaii, or the lot would be overrun with residents or people from other properties.

5. The hotel was well situated to drive to the various sites on the island (snorkeling on the west side, Hilo to the southeast, the Mauna Kea mountain to the east, etc.) If you rent a car, they'll valet it.
