1. It seems fairly apparent that either we were charged the 'extra person' fee because someone assumed we were not a couple, or (alternatively) someone decided that our straight friends should be given a break on the fee because they are so obviously a cute married couple.

2. Immediately after we all checked out, my partner and I saw that we were charged a $30 fee for having an 'extra person' in our room, while our friends were not.

3. I'm not saying this was in any way discriminatory (they booked a week or two before we did, and they checked in a couple of hours earlier), but you can imagine that it rubs salt in the wound a bit to then be charged a fee for the privilege of squeezing my partner and I into a tiny, expensive room.

4. So we called CQ customer service, where the representatives again had no explanation for the fee and admitted that it did give the appearance of being discriminatory.

5. After all, we had not hidden the fact that our reservation was for two people; no one had mentioned the extra fee when we booked the room; and our friends were charge for the same type of room (1 queen bed, I think) and had checked out literally seconds before us, with the same desk agent.

6. location was excellent ; very close to attractions and metro; my only complaint was the late check out fee i was charged while i sat in room waiting on my train; i would have checked out if called at check out time of noon instead of 1pm.
