4. The main floor has a cafeteria, but, who wants to eat a cafeteria in a city full of interesting eateries? The rooms were very nicely decorated, modern, clean and we were very pleasantly suprised with the quality of sleep.

7. But if you are just looking for a safe, clean, pleasant place to stay and have a car, I'd recommend it - the week I was there, the hotel was packed with families and business travelers.

10. Government travel budgets don't allow for the pricey hotels of the San Diego Harbor and Gaslamp Quarter, but while the 'light industrial' location of this hotel (by the Highway 5 bypass) isn't an area I would wander at night, I found the Holiday Inn Downtown to be an simple, perfectly adequate pleasant surprise.
