5. The lobby area is nice enough, but staff was not particularly welcoming and tended to ignore newly seated parties for a while (despite it not being very busy).

6. While the furniture was fairly new, the carpet in the room was stretched and worn out, door handles were worn out and lightswitches dirty, and both the tub tiles and closet doors were quite damaged.

But then there's the rest of it; the countless little touches: a huge new flower display atop the lobby fountain every day, glittering Versailles-style public function rooms, wake-up calls from a live person who asks if you'd like that day's weather, scratch pads, stationery and pens (emblazoned with ducks, of course) replaced each day, laundry returned in wicker baskets, extra staff at the front desk at check-out time in order to deal with exiting conventioneers.

10. I received several e-mails offering to sell upgrades after I booked my stay, so selling upgrade options is obviously nothing new to the Peabody.
