There is a fairly large homeless population, which is sad, but we never felt threatened or in
danger

I'd guess that nightime it is probably a litle worse, but if you drive in with your car or if you take a cab there's no way to get involved in a
dangerous
movie.

(tip - it can be a little on the noisy side until 11pm but who goes to sleep before then?)Everyone was advising us about how
dangerous
the Tenderloin area is but honestly I'd rather stay there amongst the colorful characters and cheap delicious restaurants then be in a tourist trap any day.

The neighbourhood is not 'beautiful' or touristy at all but we never felt in any
danger

Although the neighborhood is a bit questionable, I have never had any problems; nor have I felt in
danger

The neighborhood is NOT
dangerous
--it has a `downtown` feel and if you are staying in the front section there is a little street noise, but there are no projects here, which in my opinion are what make SF neighborhoods
dangerous
.
