I was surprised at the
lack
of attention or greeting from the doorman (twice) but the courteous and rapid check in at Reception restored my initial perception of the hotel.

My only reservation was the
lack
of personal contact during the stay- eg no greeting ever from any of the door staff, who were too busy sorting out cars/ taxis or chatting to each other to ever make eye contact with someone going in or out of the hotel.

Unlike many hotels today, you can get an a la carte breakfast in the main dining room or downstairs coffee shop rather than being forced, for
lack
of alternatives, into an expensive buffet breakfast.

The service in the past was sometimes hit or miss, and the rooms were nice but the quality of details (like towel quality, housekeeping, or room service) was occassionally
lack
ing.
