1. While the Golden Nugget is the downtown jewel with its Old Vegas rat Pack glitz and polish (and many great beers on the house, even for slot players), the El Cortez is now homebase for us - they have the best comps/rates, loosest machines, and a hard-to-describe but ultracool time-warping ambience of old Vegas gangster hangout, rehab-over-replace, seasoned friendly staff, and great inexpensive food in their 24-hour restaurant (featuring Chinese entrees in the evenings).
"Less Pomp and Gouge, More Substance and Comp " Read full review on TripAdvisor   12/29/2011 Vote
2. There is a lingering smell of cigarette smoke that probably dates back to the rat Pack days.
"Great place for the money " Read full review on TripAdvisor   7/28/2011 Vote
3. The rat Pack are all dead and the 60's are gone for good.
"When they said "Old Vegas" they weren't kidding! " Read full review on TripAdvisor   7/24/2010 Vote
4. This is one of the last original hotel/casinos of the previous generations where the rat Pack and Wayne Newton originally performed, collaborated and made (in)famous as their hang outs.
"VEGAS, BABY, VEGAS!!! " Read full review on TripAdvisor   2/4/2010 Vote
5. Saw the rat Pack is Back show down the street, drove around town, ate, lost 40 buck in under 2 mins.
"not as bad as I thought it was going to be " Read full review on TripAdvisor   7/27/2009 Vote
6. I'll prefer the rat Pack-style casino at the ElCo.
