1. The great upsides to this hotel was the great location, the always excellent service from a Kimpton-including a surprise complimentary champagne and dessert for a friend and I when we asked the concierge to help us with a reservation.

2. From asking about the dogs as soon as I gave the front desk attendant my name upon arrival, to a pet concierge who delivered toys, dog beds and treats, they made it fun for us and our dogs.

3. It was 4th of July weekend and everything was perfect from the moment we arrived and the bellboy greeted us, the front desk upgraded our room free of charge and we received a coupon for $10 of mini bar refreshments( a Kimpton in touch perk), The concierge was very helpful with restaurant choices, of which there are many in Portland.

The hotel's theme is wine -- the concierge can arrange a tour to Oregon's nearby Pinot Noir country, which I wish I'd taken -- and the adjacent Italian restaurant Pazzo pours a fine selection of vino (the food's good too -- I loved the plate with flatbread, roasted garlic and taleggio cheese, but there's lots of fancy schmancy offerings too.
