1. Since I am in the hospitality business, I noted the small cost saving measures like curtains covering the closet and bath, not doors, and a mattress sitting on a low built-in platform, not a bed.

The single uncomfortable chair, the low platform for the bed that you had to remember not to trip over, the curtained off closet, the super low bathroom counter with tile that felt grimy even if it wasn't - all those things made the Standard of lesser quality than other hipster hotels I've stayed at.

7. The bed is on a carpeted platform, the closet is a curtain partition, there is nowhere to sit except the bed and a molded plastic chair, no where to open up your suitcase except your bed, the floor, or a long skinny plastic 'desk'.

8. Other stupid design features: closet and shelves in the (damp) bathroom; no coffee maker or tea ('We don't provide coffee in our hotel; you can call for room service instead.
