1. I joined the Joie De Vivre loyalty program (free) and was surprised to get a complimentary upgrade to an available suite when I checked in.

4. Lovely suite, relaxing color scheme, good furniture, great king bed with upscale linens and duvet, wet bar, sofa, desk, all the perks were here with a spotless, pretty though smallish bathroom.

5. On the first day we just kept walking from the ferry building to fisherman's wharf, and it was so much busier there we realized our location suited our sleepier style better.
