5. As it was our 25th anniversary, the management treated us to a bottle of champagne on ice awaiting us in an upgraded room The location is terrific--we walked all around the Union Square/downtown area and returned to the complimentary wine during their "Happy Hour" in the lounge.

7. -The rooms and bathrooms are very small - think of the size of your childhood bedroom- Applies to all downtown hotels, but wherever you are downtown you have to run the gauntlet of the panhandlers- One lift serves the whole hotel so I ended up using the stairs a lot .

8. Being so high up, we might have expected some good views of downtown San Fran, but all our windows provided were a close-up of a brick wall and a back-alley.
