Downtown SF is cool but there's a lot of homeless people, but from here you can take a bus to anywhere in the city(if you can, do not rent a car, parking is hard and sometimes expensive), plus the bart can take you to the airport for $4.70(from the powell station, fares vary from station to station) which is better than taking an expensive taxi.
