1. Housekeeping was very good and this is the only hotel I have stayed in where the maid has left us a note thanking us for her tip.

8. I don't know what is more disturbing: the fact that housekeeping just comes into your room (while you're naked with your spouse no less!) an hour after your check-in (so obviously the room doesn't need servicing.

9. To Palomar's credit, they did try to make amends with the housekeeping/dog situation by sending up sparkling cider (remembering that I can't have alcohol) and chocolate covered strawberries, plus free continental breakfast for my husband and I.

10. But really, all of these problems could have been easily solved with two things: a chain lock (to keep housekeeping from coming in and my dog from going out), and a good fan (to keep us cool and to provide white noise to sleep).
