1. Ask for a room ending in -15 and you'll have a sliver view of the lake, and even better, Anish Kapoor's 'Cloud Gate' sculpture (aka 'the Bean') and its ever-changing refelction of Chicago, one of America's great cities.

4. The 'L' train, or Blue line, gets you to Clark and Lake, where we needed to get off, and walk down to Michigan and the hotel is around the corner from there.

10. In the 1929 Carbide and Carbon Building, the re-purposed building has intimate-feeling floors, very large rooms, spacious bathrooms, and superb views of the lake, the Chicago skyline, and Millenium Park.
