4. I`ve rarely had to change rooms due to mechanical problems, but other times the hotel offered an apology along with something else (wine, fruit basket, upgrade to a better room, discount, etc.).

5. Be sure to tell them when you're leaving - it takes quite a while for them to extract your car if it's buried, and get the hotel to stamp your ticket for the discounted rate.
