1. The hotel was very conveniently located within the city and once we parked at the EZ park across the street ($15 for 24 hours) we didn't use the car again but were able to walk everywhere we needed to go (took us about 20 minutes to walk to the Historic District with the kids in and out of the stroller).

3. I was really only there from 7 pm to 7 am -- aside from dropping off my suitcase earlier and picking it up much later -- but the hotel was comfortable, convenient, and well-priced.

4. The prices are marginally higher than you might pay for some of the standard chains, but even the cheapest hotels in central Philadelphia are pretty expensive, so for a few dollars more it's worth getting the convenience, ambiance and comfort of the Independent.

5. The trip to Philly was for the Flower Show and it was convenient to the Convention Center and other Philly sites.
