1. Now for the positives: (i) great location, if you like walking, it's 30 minutes to Fisherman's Wharf (at least with children), around 15 minutes to Union Square and convenient for the Hyde-Powell cable car; (ii) great views if you're in the right rooms; (iii) tower rooms a bit newer than the older wing; (iv) even if the rest of the hotel is tired, the lobby is very nice, especially at Christmas time.

4. Spent two nights with my wife in the tower (newer) wing of the hotel while on business.

5. Pros:- amazing room upgrade (from a standard in the main/older building to a suite in the newer tower)- huge living room large enough to entertain 20 guests- very comfortable bed (firm w/feather bed and down comforter).

7. Not a big problem if you're going to be out and about most of the time or if you are only here a night, but paying full price, I'd try to stay in the newer rooms.

10. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel in a lovely room,spotlessly clean, very comfortable large bed, large well stocked bathroom and with the most amazing views out towards the bay with Alcatraz in the back ground.
