1. This stretch of beach has nice size waves, kids boggie boarding and surfers further out - great fun.

2. Construction always takes longer than expected and of course these folks are working on 'island time' but still, this is our third visit over 18 months and there is no restaurant and there is a huge yellow 'construction vehicle' that trundles through the pool area 843 times a day (well, it felt like 843) carrying construction materials and waste back and forth and there is always the clatter of hammers and drills and other fun stuff like that.

7. We resorted to smuggling plastic cups of wine to the hot tub in the evening, where everyone is literally chugging vodka out of water bottles making fun of the staff that yells at them for drinking.

The good:* Beautiful views from oceanfront rooms* Fronts on great swimming beach (at least in winter); we had fun playing in the waves on several occasions* Plenty of restaurants within easy driving distance* Good central location for exploring the rest of Kauai -- 60 to 90 minutes from North Shore or Waimea Canyon* Nice options for beach or oceanfront strolling right from the hotel.

9. If you are a mega resort type, you probably would be bored as you need to make your own fun here, which isn't hard to do, just look where you are.

10. Pros:- The grounds are well-kept and very nicely landscaped with lush plants & koi ponds- Super friendly staff (concierge, check-in, housekeepers)- Right on the beach w/ access to shower and Lava's bar & pool- Included in the resort fee was an evening tidepool tour - I recommend, was fun.
